Felam was born in the small village of Samor in Wuliris to Telam, a hunter and tanner, and his wife, Issla. Until the age of seven, Felam's life was little different from any other boy's in that region. Like his mother, from an early age he showed a congenial nature, from his father, some skill in combat. His father, who traded with the dwarves of Nom-ri, would take young Felam with him, and perhaps this is where the first stirring of his love of all things ancient was awoken.
However, dark clouds were on the horizon, for the tyrannical Dragon Lord Sulthon ni Shaang, pursuing his appetite for invasion, was battling his way through the region. Believing the Nom-ri would never permit Sulthon to reach them, the people of Samor and the neighboring villages were caught unawares. Telam was slain in heated battle, and Issla fell before the door of their house. Before her death, she sent Felam with the other children and old people to an old, abandoned Nom-ri redoubt, where they remained for many days.
Finally, the few remnants of the folk of that area made their way southward, pursued by Sulthon's servants, hunger and disease. Few survived the trek, but Felam and a dozen others finally found their way into safer lands. It was here that the Priests of Eissa took pity upon the poor stragglers from the north, giving comfort to the sick and finding homes for the orphans. Felam impressed them, however. He was sent on to train as a priest to the Lady of Rebirth, and there showed such an aptitude for reading and writing, that he was admitted as an acolyte.
Felam buried himself in his learning; history, languages, cultures and rituals. While he retained his good nature, he harbors a deep hatred of Sulthon, who he sees as the slayer of his parents and the destroyer of his childhood.
